A proper springtime adventure

Spring in Florida is always a lovely time of year for outdoor activities, making a beach or a springs trip on a nice day, and bringing out the shorts from the bottom of the drawer. But in a lot of ways I still miss having a more normal progression of seasons, especially when spring and fall come around. Thankfully my time spent here in Poland has allowed me to experience the seasons I missed back home (winter included!) even amidst the days that are cloudy and rainy like today. We'll call it practice for moving to England ;)

This Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous and sunny day. We took to the city for the afternoon for a long walk near old town and Kazimierez and a late lunch on a barge on the Wisła River outside in the sunshine. We of course also had to make a stop at the Wawel Castle and dragon statue (a promised stop on our tour last year) and saw quite a lot of other city folks strolling around as well. It was fun to spend the Saturday in the city as it has quite a different vibe than Gainesville.

On Sunday we went with some of Dragan's friends by car to the mountains in the south. We made a hike in Babia Góra national park. Spring was just starting to come, with just a hint of green on the trees and the fresh scent of trees in the air. It was a decent day (not sunny like the day before but no rain and no wind) and we make a 9km hike. The last 200m was quite an uphill adventure through the snow and up a steep slope, but at the end we actually made it to the border with Slovakia :D I was not well-equipped but managed to get there (and have paid the price in soreness today). A really nice national park and a fantastic way to spend a springtime Sunday.

Making the descent (some paths were easier than others!)

I am quite sore and tired today but happy for a nice weekend out and about :D
